Variety Hits ist ein aus Kanada stammendes Hörfunkformat, das erstmals 2002 auf Sendung ging. Der bekannteste Vertreter dieses Konzepts ist Jack FM. Grund für die Entwicklung von Variety Hits war, dass bisherige Radioformate immer mehr an Akzeptanz und somit Zuhörer an personalisierte Musikstreams oder Musikplayer verloren. Variety-Hit-Formate zeichnen sich durch ein breites Musikspektrum innerhalb der populären Musik aus, wobei nur wenig gesprochen wird. Im Gegensatz zu älteren Musikformaten spielt das Alter der Musik beim Variety-Hit-Format nur eine untergeordnete Rolle. Gespielt werden die durch Marktforschung ermittelten beliebtesten Titel einer Zielgruppe, egal welcher Musikrichtung und welchen Alters. Nach Kanada übernahmen auch einige Staaten in den USA das Konzept. Auch in Europa ist dieses Format zumindest angekommen und wird aber nur zögerlich und wenn, dann stark verfremdet eingesetzt.
